“The death penalty? Give me a break. It’s easy. Abortion? Absolutely easy. Nobody ever thought the Constitution prevented restrictions on abortion. Homosexual sodomy? Come on. For 200 years, it was criminal in every state.”

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia kinda went off the cuff at an event and made it clear where he stands on the death penalty, abortion, and “homosexual sodomy,” which he clearly thinks should be illegal.

Um, remember that thing I was saying about supreme court picks? Scalia is 76. John Paul Stevens was nominated by Gerald Ford and didn’t retire until he was 90, having served for 35 years. That is the ultimate power of the presidency: to shape interpretation of the constitution for a generation. Scalia only needs one more vote to get his way. VOTE (for the constitutional law professor ;-)
